ANCIENT ENGLISH BEDTIME PRAYER

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
Bless the bed that I lie on.
Before I lay me down to sleep
I give my soul to Christ to keep.
Four corners to my bed,
Four angels there a-spread,
Two to foot and two to head,
And four to carry me when I'm dead.
I go by sea, I go by land,
The Lord made me by his right hand.
If any danger come to me,
Sweet Jesus Christ deliver me.
He's the branch and I'm the flower,
Pray God send me a happy hour,
And if I die before I wake
I pray the Lord my soul will take.

NIGHT PRAYER

Watch, dear Lord,
with those who wake, or watch, or weep tonight,
and give your angels charge over those who sleep.
Tend your sick ones, O Lord Jesus Christ,
rest your weary ones.
Bless your dying ones.
Soothe your suffering ones.
Pity your afflicted ones.
Shield your joyous ones.
And all for your love's sake,
Amen.
~Saint Augustine

HI!

Hi to all my blogging friends! It's been quite busy here and doesn't look like it will change anytime soon. Hope to pop in now and then to give updates on the items I've been working on. Finished a scarf for The Preemie Project's bake/craft sale in August. Am working on a matching hat. Won't be going to Firefall this year since it's been raining and there have already been tornados sighted to the west and north of us. Kids are dissappointed, but hey, that's part of life ya know. #1 is staying at a friend's house for a couple of days as a consolation and the rest of us will enjoy Norm's presence til Thursday. I feel a Scrabble game coming on:~D

Found out yesterday that my two niece's-in-law will be having one of each! YEAH!

Is it me, or has this year just flown by?!! Tomorrow is the 1st of JULY!!!

A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO MY SEWING MACHINE

Our friendly neighborhood Spiderman came to visit.
We have an eight year old in the house!
Summer reading fun for the family. Gotta have a little fun with it along the way thanks to the Springfield-Greene County Library:~D
I read all three KnitLit books which I enjoyed very much. Quite a variety!
Began a black and yellow scarf with matching hat for the next Preemie Project craft/bake sale.
I'm currently reading "Knitting" by Anne Bartlett and am enjoying this as well. Nice light summer reading.
Began a pinwheel blanket in soft pastel colors and am finishing up some booties to go with the hats for The Preemie Project. Want to get these done before the end of the month and sent out.
Am working also on some more 8" squares for the Greensburg Project.
My intentions to sew were right on, but knitting just got in the way!

WOOL AND SHEEP

At Springfield's oldest homestead this past Sunday afternoon was the Wool and Sheep festival. Very family friendly events, old fashioned singing, dancing, story telling, dying wool, a kid's tent, spinning, knitting, lace making, needlepoint, baked goods and lemonade, tours of the Grey/Campbell house and barn, sheep (Rambouillete?(pronounced ram*bo*lay) from the Martin farm), sheep shearing that had kids cranking on some contraption that helped the shearer, kids games, some venders and a lot of sunshine after the morning rains. Daniel and I had a wonderful time!

DYING THE OLD FASHIONED WAY

It was amazing what colors you can get from yellow, red, and blue dyes in the pots that were over the wood fire at the Sheep and Wool Festival!! Depending on how the wool is treated before being put in the dye pots. The skeins were tied with tags that said what they had been treated with and then they were put in a tub of distilled water so they would accept the dyes. Totally amazing science!

8 RANDOM FACTS MEME

Barbara tagged me for this meme. Hope you enjoy finding out some things about this old gal:~D
1. I'm the eldest and only daughter. My brother Jody is 17 months younger and my baby brother Jimmy Lee was born very prematurely in July of 1968. Medical science wasn't what it is today and my parents donated his body to science. I feel that in some small way he has helped my babies survive.
2. I was raised around mostly boys. My cousin Bruce who is a year older than me lived up the street with his sister who was a couple of years older than him, so she didn't have too much to do with us after awhile. There was a boy just up the street from Bruce that we played with too. I'm more comfortable around guys, so I'm ok with having just boys.
3. I love chickens!! Not just to eat. My grandma raised them for years. One time she brought in a baby chick and held it to our ears to wake us up. She had three hen houses and it was fun to find eggs. If you ever get the chance to watch chickens they will provide you with hours of good entertainment.
4. I love the color green and purple comes a close second. I dress and decorate in mostly red, white and blues.
5. I was a student librarian in high school, did some volunteer work in our public library, and did a semester of work/study at the University library shelving books during my third, and last, year.
6. My grandma couldn't just sit either. She usually pieced on quilts or did embroidery. I'm the same way. I need to have something productive to do.
7. I am a decendant of Daniel Boone's youngest son Nathaniel.
8. I love looking at art and fashion magazines though I dress conservatively. It is just fun and interesting to see what other people think is cool to wear. I really like Project Runway though I don't know how it will be without Tim Gunn as a guiding guru.

Well, there you have it. I won't tag anyone but if you want to play then please leave a message and I'll come visit.

PREEMIE GEAR

I love the t-shirt I got at Cafepress!! I also got a bumper sticker and a couple of tote bags that are SO CUTE!!! It will be fun to tote my stuff, like this pretty yellow hat for a preemie, while I KNIT IN PUBLIC this SATURDAY and spread the word about THE PREEMIE PROJECT a cause near and dear to my heart. Check out the new web site and find out how you too can get your Preemie Project gear!

WHAT TO DO WITH ODDS AND ENDS

I have quite a few small balls of Caron Simply Soft that I'm currently trying to use up making one full term hat, four large preemie, two medium preemie, and three small preemie hats. I also used some to make a square for the Greensburg Project. It is such a relief to be able to use as much as possible!!!

FIELD DAY FUN

Do not adjust your color. His lips are purple from eating a blue and a red popcicle. His class got their white t-shirts tie-dyed purple. They had a great time playing games outside yesterday morning and then he and his brothers got to run around in the park that evening.

#1 TIES FOR FIRST PLACE

For the next to last day of school Eric's class had a contest for the most authentic costume for the "Tom Sawyer" look. He and a friend tied for the most authentic costume and for the most authentic meal which was fried chicken, cornbread, an apple and water tied in a bandana and tied to a stick.

ANOTHER MONDAY

Well folks, I wish I had taken a photo, but it's even hard for me to believe. Here's what happened...a couple of Saturdays ago Norm bought a new bigger clothsline to replace the one damaged in the ice storm. It didn't quite fit, but he sawed off a bit and it was good as new, even better. Well the following Friday we had some storms pass through and we heard the longest thunder roll we'd ever heard. What do you think happened? A limb may have been hit by lightning and fell on the new clothsline. Less than a week it was up. What is up with that?!! Anyways, Norm managed to get it straightened up and it works just fine. There are still dead limbs hanging from the trees and none of them fell down. The wind wasn't that strong so I'm thinking lightning must have hit. It's a pretty big limb full of leaves. Weird.
Since the boys are still in school this week I'll be knitting instead of sewing. When they can watch their baby brother then I can focus on the sewing part.
I've got three more squares to go and it will fill the box with 50 squares. I'll send it out on Saturday. I'm working on getting some preemie hats done with some left over yarn. Has anyone else noticed that Caron Simply Soft has a "New White" out that looks more like silver than any white I've ever seen. I need to get some more white white to finish the white blanket. I wonder if someone didn't make a mistake and they are trying to "make it work"?
Finally got the "KnitLit" book from the library. Really nice stories!!
Hope you are having a nice day. I'm counting my blessings:~D
ps. If you haven't already, go visit the newly renovated Preemie Project site. The web guy did a great job!
